Under the auspices of the Dutch Newfoundland Club, waterwork is practiced in six places in the Netherlands.
The season runs from early April to early October.
You must be a member of NNFC to participate in water work for one of the six districts.
Of course you are also very welcome if you are not yet a member. You are welcome to come and have a look first, but participating right away is much more fun. You can train twice as a non-member to see if waterworks is something for you and/or your Newfoundlanders.
You do not need to register in advance. You can just come.
The costs are €2 per dog per water work day. If there are more than 2 participating dogs from the same owner, the total amount is €5.
Swimming harnesses or life jackets are available to borrow for the start.
Handy things to take with you are a chair, a blanket for your dog, a water bowl and water, a parasol, rain gear, dry clothing, something to eat and drink, a sturdy ground spike to secure your dog, and shoes that are water resistant. . If you have a diving suit/surfing suit, you can take it with you and put it on.
Because the dogs do not all go into the water at the same time, quite a few hours are spent at the water's edge.
There are a large number of sturdy ground stakes on a large lawn, sometimes with colorful parasols above them. The dogs camp there between exercises.
The dogs themselves, all dressed in swimming gear, are also a cheerful sight with the brightly colored floating rings hanging along their withers. There are some party tents for the bosses where they can take refuge in bad weather. The water workers form a relaxed group and there is a friendly atmosphere, both among the people and the dogs.
There is no competition element.
